History and Membership of Alabama Teachers Credit Union

How It All Began

Back in March 1959, Alabama Teachers Credit Union kicked off with just two employees, nestled on the second floor of the Gadsden City Board of Education Building. Originally called Etowah Teachers Credit Union, it was a small club for employees and their families from the Gadsden City and Etowah County School Systems. Fast forward to August 1989, the credit union switched from a federal to a state charter and got a new name: Alabama Teachers Credit Union (Alabama Teachers Credit Union).

Growing the Family

July 2001 was a game-changer. Alabama Teachers Credit Union opened its doors wider, welcoming anyone living, working, or going to school in Calhoun, Cherokee, DeKalb, Etowah, and Marshall counties (Alabama Teachers Credit Union). By July 2012, they rolled out a fresh brand and image, celebrating the idea that everyone is a teacher in their own way. They embraced every teaching moment in life, pushing the idea that learning together makes us all better (Alabama Teachers Credit Union).
